Building Knowledge & Independence

Key Stage 2 covers Years 3–6 and takes children from the basics learned in KS1 to more complex skills. Pupils aged 7–11 deepen their understanding of English, maths and science, explore subjects like history and geography in more detail, and begin learning a foreign language. This stage also introduces formal exams such as the Year 4 multiplication tables check, Year 6 SATs and the optional Eleven‑Plus entrance tests.

At Tuition Point we tailor KS2 tuition to each child’s goals. Whether your child needs help mastering fractions, improving reading comprehension or practising exam techniques, our tutors provide a supportive mix of guidance and independence. We help children develop problem‑solving skills, resilience and study habits that prepare them for the transition to secondary school and beyond.

What Is Key Stage 2?

Key Stage 2 is the second stage of primary school education in England, covering children aged 7–11 (Years 3–6). The national curriculum requires schools to teach English, mathematics, science, design & technology, history, geography, art & design, music, physical education, computing and — from KS2 — ancient and modern foreign languages.

In Year 4 pupils take a multiplication tables check to ensure they know their times tables up to 12×12. At the end of Year 6 students sit SATs tests in English reading, grammar, punctuation, spelling and mathematics. Some families also choose to prepare for the Eleven‑Plus (11+) entrance exam, which assesses verbal reasoning, non‑verbal reasoning, maths and English for admission to grammar schools. Our KS2 tutors have experience guiding children through these assessments while maintaining a balanced, enjoyable learning experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exams do children take at the end of KS2?

In England, Year 6 pupils sit SATs tests in English reading, grammar, punctuation, spelling and mathematics. These assess pupils’ progress and help secondary schools understand their needs. We also support preparation for optional 11+ entrance exams for grammar schools.

How do you prepare my child for the Eleven‑Plus?

Our tutors teach the verbal and non‑verbal reasoning skills tested in the 11+ as well as advanced maths and English. Through practice papers, timed exercises and feedback, we help pupils become confident and fluent under exam conditions.

Do you cover homework and school topics?

Yes. While we have a structured programme, our one‑to‑one sessions also provide space for your child to ask about school homework or topics they find challenging. We reinforce classroom learning and fill any gaps.

How can you keep my child motivated?

We set achievable goals, celebrate progress and incorporate engaging activities. By building a positive relationship with the tutor and showing how their efforts lead to success, children develop intrinsic motivation.

Can lessons be scheduled around family commitments?

Absolutely. We offer flexible times after school, at weekends and during holidays. You can mix online and in‑person sessions to fit around work, clubs and other activities.
