Key Stage 2 is the second stage of primary school education in England, covering children aged 7–11 (Years 3–6). The national curriculum requires schools to teach English, mathematics, science, design & technology, history, geography, art & design, music, physical education, computing and — from KS2 — ancient and modern foreign languages.
In Year 4 pupils take a multiplication tables check to ensure they know their times tables up to 12×12. At the end of Year 6 students sit SATs tests in English reading, grammar, punctuation, spelling and mathematics. Some families also choose to prepare for the Eleven‑Plus (11+) entrance exam, which assesses verbal reasoning, non‑verbal reasoning, maths and English for admission to grammar schools.
