KS1: A Gentle Start to Learning

Key Stage 1 is the first formal step in your child’s educational journey. Covering Years 1 and 2, this stage lays the groundwork for a lifetime of learning. At Tuition Point, we understand how important it is to make these formative years positive and inspiring. Our experienced tutors work one‑to‑one with your child or in small groups to build essential skills in a fun, engaging environment.

Our KS1 programmes are designed for children aged 5–7 who are developing early reading, writing and numeracy. Whether your little one is just starting to sound out words or needs help with number bonds and basic science, we tailor each lesson to their pace and interests. By nurturing curiosity and confidence from the start, we help young learners develop a love of education that stays with them through later key stages.

What Makes KS1 Tuition Unique?

One‑to‑One & Small‑Group Support

Young children thrive in nurturing environments. We offer focused one‑to‑one sessions to provide individual attention alongside small groups of 2–4 pupils for those who enjoy learning with peers. Each format fosters confidence and ensures no question goes unanswered.

Aligned with the National Curriculum

Our lessons follow the national curriculum for Key Stage 1, which requires primary schools to teach core subjects like English, maths, science and more. We also help your child prepare for Year 1 phonics screening and Year 2 assessments.

Gentle & Engaging Approach

We know that young learners have shorter attention spans, so our tutors use play‑based activities, songs, stories and games to keep sessions lively. A gentle, patient approach encourages children to explore new topics without fear.

Progress Tracking & Flexibility

Through regular assessments and progress reports, you’ll see how your child is improving. We schedule lessons at times that suit your family and can adjust pace or focus as your child’s needs evolve.

What Is Key Stage 1?

Key Stage 1 refers to the first two years of formal schooling in England, covering Year 1 and Year 2. Children are typically between five and seven years old. During these years they learn to read, write, add and subtract, and begin exploring the world around them through science and geography. The national curriculum requires schools to teach English, mathematics, science, design & technology, history, geography, art & design, music, physical education and computing.

Year 1 pupils take a phonics screening check to ensure they’re developing sound awareness. In Year 2, children are assessed by teachers and may sit tests in reading, grammar, spelling and maths. Our KS1 tutors provide gentle preparation for these assessments without creating undue stress. We focus on building enthusiasm for learning so your child feels confident when they encounter new concepts.

Yes. Our KS1 lessons align with the national curriculum subjects such as English, maths and science. We also prepare students for the phonics screening check and Year 2 assessments.

Can my child switch between online and in‑person sessions?

Absolutely. We offer flexible scheduling and can alternate between online and face‑to‑face lessons to suit your family’s needs and location. Our tutors will ensure a seamless transition.

What if my child is shy or has special educational needs?

Our tutors are experienced in supporting a range of learning styles and needs. By building trust and rapport, we help shy children feel comfortable participating. For pupils with additional needs, we adjust our methods and collaborate closely with parents and schools to provide the right support.
